Critical Thinking Assignment Option # 1 – Unions in the Workplace, Paper

Unions have declined in scope and importance over the past 20 to 30 years. Today, less than 10% of the U.S. workforce is represented by a union, and most of those members work for the public sector. However, there are still powerful unions in other countries. Given these thoughts, address the following:

  • The role of unions in the workplace today.
  • The principal value that unions can bring to the workplace, along with the challenges they may also present to the organization.
  • The challenges that human resources may experience in creating a conducive relationship between unions and management in foreign countries as opposed to in the domestic country.

Requirements:

  • Your written paper should be three to four pages in length, not counting the required title and reference pages.

In the modern corporate world, establishments of unions in the workplaces are significant
since they help in setting reasonable standards for skill levels, education levels, working
conditions, wages and life quality for the workers within an organization. The unions are
initiated with the aim of setting a reasonable working condition for the workers within an
institution that aims at maximizing on the achievements for the organizational operations. Most

between the workers and their bosses where few individuals represent the worker's grievances to
the management (Gregory & Milner, 2009). The workers served in the union's activities for
negotiating wages benefits more compared to the workers who are not represented by the unions.
