Religion is commonly perceived as the custodian of morality in the community as
argued by Foster. Religion has the role of upholding the morality in the community and
should condemn aspects such as killing, adultery, theft, and all other forms of sin. The article
indicates that the deprivation of the right to consume foods that they work on is a theft
(Foster 2). The concept applies to the mistreatment of the slaves as their masters do not even
allow them to consume the food that they tend. Thus, the slave masters stole the food form
the slaves which amounted to sin and moral wrong. Foster opines that religion should
condemn such practices as they amount to immorality and sin before God. He argues that the
failure of the religion to condemn such practices amounts to a conspiracy against the slaves in
