CCJS 100 University of Maryland District Attorney Role Essay
A little background: You have learned about many aspects of the criminal justice system that have an affect on cases going to court and court proceedings. It is important that the CJ system is viewed in its totality in an effort to see how different factors affect the outcome and ultimately the quest for justice.
Directions: Based off of what you have learned in weeks 5 & 6 (and keeping in mind what you learned in weeks 1-4) you are to answer the following questions:
Make up with a synopsis of a criminal act. This should be no longer than a paragraph. It should include the elements needed to answer the following questions.
Identify the crime(s) committed and the response by the police (this should detail the probable cause element for an arrest), suggest the charges for this individual (refer to the revised statutes in the state that you live to identify what crime(s) they may be charge with). You may have to do some additional outside research (besides the revised statutes in your state) using sources through the UMGC library to obtain some of this information.
Pretend that you are the District Attorney for this case. Explain your role in the prosecution of this case. Detail the information and steps that will be taken to take this case to trial. Explain the elements that must be necessary in order for the suspect to be convicted in the U.S. court system.

Odessa College Three Part Writing Course Benefits Reflection Paper
Here are details about your writing topic:In brief, the final exam asks you to write about your experience in this course, with an emphasis on your own engagement and effort in three particular aspects of this course. The three aspects of the course which you are being asked to write about are listed below. Note that you will preview these three things in an intro paragraph, as usual, and write a body paragraph about each of the three:Your experience in learning and using the three-part writing format,Your experience with the need to carefully proofread your writing on the sentence level, andYour experience with collaborative teamwork in the course, most obviously the peer-review discussion boards and reflections, but also including any less formal type of collaboration such as tutoring, brainstorming with classmates, etc. As in all essays except Essay Three, the use of personal stories as specific examples will be emphasized in grading. The basic format of this essay is, as always, a three-part format of introduction-main body-conclusion; do not omit the brief concluding paragraph. So, you must use the three-part format in writing this final exam essay, as you have done in other essays. Also as already noted, like in the first two essays, in particular, your specific examples will once again be personal stories. I expect a minimum length of 800 words. Be sure and proofread your final exam essay to the best of your ability. Note that because the final exam is designed for a student to demonstrate independent mastery of the course materials, there will be no partial draft due, nor will I be willing to give feedback on any draft. I will, of course, be willing to clarify my instructions by answering any questions anyone may have.
