The portable devices such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets have become an integral
part to almost every higher education students. The technological devices may seem to help
students to learn better, but there are problematic unintended consequences with many of the
tools. Laptops and smartphones, when taken to the classroom, are supposed to be used for taking
class notes and perhaps accessing class related academic information on the internet, but the
student turns the devices as a tool for social media interactions. When laptops and cell phones
are allowed in schools, it will introduce distraction. Students will be tempted to indulge in the
devices thus deviations from the primary objective of going to school. Students will be busy
fiddling with their cell phones hence their concentration towards studies will deteriorate
(Foasberg, N. M, 2014).
However, if the devices are to be allowed to be used by students, there should be rules
surrounding the privilege. Schools should limit the websites to be viewed on their network.
Students should not be allowed access the internet through a monitored system. When the use of
devices is permitted at schools, it will disconnect students from face to face social activities,
family communication, and nature (Peter, A, 2012). More so, cell phones and tablet will create
chances of cheating in exams and result in implications for students. When a student is caught
cheating in the review can lead to academic.
Besides, not all students can afford to have a technological device. So schools should
provide a fair conducive environment for students so that no student would feel like a
