Art history refers to the study of art objects and how they have historically developed as
well as the stylistic contexts such as design, genre, style, and format. The study inculcates the
paintings, architecture, furniture, sculpture, ceramics, and other decorative objects asserts Elkins
(2013). This paper, therefore, seeks to examine art history as an academic field as well as the
natural and human threat to artworks that concern contemporary art historians.
Art history is an academic discipline that deals with researching the history and the
importance of visual arts. The historians of arts look at the trends and broad movements within
art and how they relate to politics, culture as well as religion. This discipline focuses much on
the improvements and uses of art in the human history. The art historians translate visual
information within the arts into written critiques and analyses. Criticism of art is concerned with
much involved in establishing a relative value in the art upon individual works with respect to
other comparable styles, or through sanctioning a whole movement or style thus different from
art history, articulates Elkins (2013). Theoretical art concentrates on the fundamental nature of
art, for instance, the branch of aesthetics, which involves the investigation of the enigma of
