Whistleblowing is when a person exposes any kind of information or activity that is deemed
illegal, unethical, or not correct within an organization that is either private or public. While
whistleblowing is the right thing to do it can often come with repercussions to the whistleblower.
For this post you will want to:
1. Find a news article discussing a whistleblowing case
2. Summarize and state your opinion on the topic.
3. Ask a question to engage peers.
Article news of the New York Times was written by Kate Kelly on April 20th, 2018. The
article news headline is about Barclays Chief Executive Staley who was fined over
whistleblower scandal. The British Bank Regulators had taken to court an appeal against Mr.
Staley for his attempt to disclose a whistleblower within the bank, and so he had to get fined.
The Barclays Bank stood to support Mr. Staley claiming that the action of the regulators
lacked integrity. It was after they never asked for any resignation of Mr. Staley nor did they
see him unfit for his post. The regulators also lacked transparency as they failed to disclose the
fine amount that Mr. Staley was to pay
From my point of view, Mr. Staley did the right thing of attempting to reveal the
whistleblower. Maybe the information he got could harm the company leading to its closure.
