1. What were women in the West a combination of?
Western women were a combination of housewives and cowgirls who could compete with their
male counterparts for employment opportunities.
2. Write three sentences comparing Western women to Eastern women.
Western women earned the right to vote before those from the eastern region (Kerber,
2017). Western women are still lag behind men whereas women from the east occupy public
positions like of a CEO. Eastern women can compete directly with men, but those from the west
are not allowed.
3. What was Western women’s role?
The role of women in the west was to care for the family, but that changed due to increased
demand. Women became professionals, educators and property owners and they even supervised
men.
4. How did most women feel about moving West?
Moving to the west was appealing to women because of the opportunities to have equal pay and
the right to vote.

5. What kind of freedom did the men experience that the women didn’t?
Men had the individual freedom to ride horses, make laws and become sheriffs.

6. In one word, describe a condition the women had to deal with.
