Description

In preparation for this discussion, review content on p. 44-54 of the book Interpersonal Conflict by Wilmot & Hocker (2010). It explains what conflict is and what the defining elements of conflict are.

To comment on this discussion you will need to read the assigned section of the book p. 44-54 by Wilmot & Hocker and respond by 250 wors. The first time, post your original comment following the instructions below

STEP : Follow-up post:

Respond to a post by another student. Use one of the metaphors described by another student to generate practical solutions. For example, if a metaphor said that conflict is like flying an airplane into the ground, then what do you need to do?An example response would be to “jump out of the plane” or “call for help.”Transform that into the real-life behaviors. In this example, maybe the person needs to exit the relationship, or just needs a two-day break. Another way to phrase this is, “What are the options inside the metaphor?”

See the attachment PDF.

Clearly demonstrate that you read and understood assigned material; make valuable contributions to the posts made by other students; post contributions without grammar & mechanical error.

Davidsonkit I see conflict as a river. Minor adjustments made upstream as the river is beginning to form may shift the river to a more favorable course. Once the river has gathered momentum, even a dam may be challenged to alter its course. Co-worker 1: Conflict is gratifying. There is nothing like taking up the cudgels or rushing to the barricades for a worthy cause. Co-worker 2: Conflict is opportunity. Conflict provides an opportunity to move forward once you identify the tension and move past it. Co-worker 3: Conflict is stubbornness. Conflict is caused by people avoiding work, complaining and not doing the right thing. Co-worker 4: The Afghan Conflict is my abusive boyfriend. Each I answer his call and go to him, he beats me down for a year and I return exhausted and broken. Then time passes and I only remember the good moments. He calls again and I agree to go back, believing it will be different this time. I assess that my personal view of conflict, as well as Co-workers 1 and 2 have a positive view of conflict. They are constructive in nature and do not see conflict as inevitable or necessarily damaging. Solution to conflict is achievable. Co-worker 3 exhibits a negative view of conflict. The workers are blamed for the problems and are not included in their potential resolution. I included Co-worker 4 because she had the most colorful metaphor developed after 6 deployments to Afghanistan, and arguably the most sophisticated. Her metaphor simultaneously reflects hope, frustration and persistence.
