Operations Management and Operations Performance
Our company is a technology company that specializes in software development. It has been around for
years as it was started in July, 2013. The staff are hardworking and innovative. As a result, we have
managed to solve a lot of problems and grown exponentially. We apply modern technology in our
work. Of late, we decided to expand and also include hardware design and production. For that, we are
looking at IoT mostly. Everything that goes on in the company is technology related. Until recently,
everything has been running smoothly.
The top management came to me with a case that has been bugging them and they need a possible
solution from a thorough analysis of the case. The company is looking into expanding, it wants to open
branches in different countries. They are having problems in establishing whether they will make loses
or profit and whether it will be worth it. They have Italy, Germany and South Africa as the target
countries to open the branches in . Analysis and a recommended course of action is what is needed.
Operations management aims at establishing great business practices that will ensure the company runs
efficiently. Considering supply chain and logistics, expanding to some countries will not be a wise
decision. Most raw materials are obtained locally and from china. It would be more reasonable to
expand to China than to South Africa due to transportation costs. The operations cost will shoot and as
a result, we may incur losses as opposed to making profits.
In expanding, the company has to consider delivery management. This involves making sure the
products get to customers in good time and putting the feedback in considerations. The quality needs to

be top notch and functionality should be as desired. Most of our customers are in the country. Getting
customers in new countries may take awhile due to the need to establish trust. Getting products that are
tailored to meet them and be able to deliver in time may take time thus causing inconveniences. The
step is a major risk. I recommend a reconnaissance and shipment of products there to establish the
stability before taking the step.
Expanding to new places may bring about issues of maintenance. I recommend setting up clear
procedures to be maintained and a task force that deal with it. Maintainability is important in any
operations. That is, if they decide to go ahead and open the branches. Maintenance is sure to be a
challenge due to limited familiarization.
