Introduction
A refugee is a person receding outside their birthplace and is not able to return to their homes due to
ethical, religious, and racial persecution according to United states definition. Refugees like any other citizen
must find employment to live a decent life. Refugees have difficulties in finding jobs in addition to problems of
work in the united states. Previous research shows that novel refugees lay into one of two types in looking for
skilled vocation. They can be either forced to work an underpaying job or do a similar occupation they had in
their mother country. Many of them nevertheless, remains jobless upon their relocation to the Australia. A few
studies point out proficiency in language plays a critical part in the aptitude of refugee to get the occupation.
The fact that many of them did not live in the Australia, and a cannot communicate effectively in English,
makes it hard for them to secure a job. A good mastering of English language is critical in areas of teaching,
engineering, and medicine. To become fluent in the English language may take a long time. The study showed
that an increase in time results in high program utilization new culture adaptation increased labor market
knowledge. This study contradicts that conducted by Krahn indicating factors like work experience, language,
and recognition of credentials to be essential tools in finding jobs. Connections to those living in the country on
migration can also lead to job accusation. Other studies show that poor mental health, individual personality,
work, and physical challenges are a problem for refugees seeking jobs. The purpose of this study is to find out
whether employment opportunities for the refugees to match their qualification. Research hypothesis concludes
that refugees possess more barrier to employment due to the trauma they undergo.

Literature Review
For refugee's settlement, Labor market participation is essential. But how do refugees fare in Australia
Labor market? They are most disadvantaged that is according to a longitudinal survey of immigrants to
Australia (DIMIA 2005). It examined that settlement of two cohorts of refugees in Australia between 19931995 and 1999-2000 showing that of those arriving in later year period 75% were jobless for more than seven
months. 45% of the humanitarian stream were unemployed after17-43 months with comparison to13% family

steam. Employees in Australia accept low paying and low-status jobs due to market labor constraints
(Mosthaf,2014 p.67). Refugee underemployment is concurrent with data from LSIA that shows them to be at
lowest job level satisfaction and low in average earning per week Rabesandratana, 2015 pg. 198)
Employability of refugees is affected by differences between the groups. Research shows that gender
difference has changed the employment rats of women than men. (Marbach, Hainmueller and
Hangartner,2017). LISA concluded that in-migration of refugees from 1990-2000 that within the 19 months
after the migration, 16% women and 47% men acquired jobs (Lundborg, 2013 pg. 78). The responsibilities
women must take care of their children affected their chances to secure the job. Social-cultural beliefs also
change the position of women to obtain employment (Mosthaf, 2014 pg. 157-177)
Age is also a consideration in getting employed with about being that those over 40 years suffer
unemployment (Gifford and Correa-Velez, 2014 pg. 100). The low rates of employment among the elderly can
be due to assist judgement in the job market. LSIA data showed that in both studies, employment rates are
higher among young immigrants.
Pre-migration experience plays a vital role in the employment of refugee. Research points out that the
harsh expertise passed through migration and trauma affects refugees’ rate of work (Samuel, Advocate and
Russell 2018 pg. 90). Research by other groups states that DIMIA research overlooked other essential issues in
the refugees’ resettlement.
Language barrier hinders refugees from being employed. Most of the professions require sound
knowledge and fluency in the English language, and these include medicine, engineering, and other jobs that
require communication to effect transactions. (Nunn and McMichael, 2014 pg. 1205) Poor education offered to
them during the transition period makes it hard for them to fully be equipped for competitive positions of
professions in the job market.

Discussion
While refugees will continuously be facing critical problems in change and getting hired, novel research
specifies their job predictions to advance the longer they live in Australia. Most of the refugees who do not find
their job carrier ends up working in low-skilled jobs with children or aged care workers dominating after
migration into the country with a 10% margin. 80% of the refugees have experienced trauma such as
persecution and war, arriving in Australia with minimal or complete English knowledge.
The research established that four to seven months after refugees' arrival, 65 of the refugees were paid ranging
from the age of 17-56. It raised to 17% the year that followed. Rates of employment were high for men than
women, as women were mostly involved in taking care of their children, with 37% of men working comparing
with 7% of women. 5% of the refugees established their own business after migration compared to less than 5%
in their original homes which had their own business.
Teachers were not able to be employed in the in Australia due to the language barrier. English
proficiency is one of the most challenging aspects. Other than language barrier, Australian Experience, and
ethnic judgement in the labor market by different groups accounts for this low percentage. From the results
teachers oversee were many professionals in their areas and were able to communicate in their home language
to pass knowledge.
