1.Choose two (2) of the following late 20th century African-American artists, and compare and contrast their art: Bearden, Lawrence, Basquiat, or Colescott. Describe specific elements of the works from the chosen artists that represent the multiplicity of the African-American experience. Identify one (1) of these works (or some other by an African American artist) that you would like in your workplace, and explain why.
2. Identify three (3) ideas that you learned in the course that surprised, confused, or intrigued you, and explain the reasons why. Lastly, students should state how they can use their new found knowledge in their daily lives.

Bearden
Bearden was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. After his high school life, Bearden
moved to New York at a tender age and graduated from New York University in 1935 where he
began to express his artistic career in the world. He came back to Europe in the year 1950 to
study philosophy and the art of history that completely changed his style of architecture which
suggested the importance of African American unity and cooperation (Bearden, Jo A., and A. F.
Burr, 1967).
