Project 1: Comparison of India and Canada
India is a country located in South Asia. It has a population of 1.3 billion people and covers
an area of 3.1 million square kilometer. The country has two official languages; Hindu and English.
The major religions are Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism and Buddhism. It uses Rupee as it
currency (Brass and Paul, 120). India has suffered several outbreaks from 1974 to 2018. The
outbreaks include cholera, smallpox, plague, flu pandemic, Gujarat hepatitis, odisha jaundice,
swine flu and lately nipah virus (Ramamurthy et. al, 101). Due its large population, India has had
some crisis mortality. The high patient-to-practitioners’ ratio has increased mortality rates in India.
The country also suffers food insecurity. There are 37 million more women than men. This has led
to shortage of married women and high levels of prostitution. Due to prostitution, there has been
an increase of HIV/AIDS in India. There have been 30 percent premature deaths due to air
pollution especially due to respiratory diseases. In India there are is no health service coverage.
Citizens pay for the services provided in the public health facilities in from their pockets. Those
who get services from private health facilities are covered by their private insurance company.
India has several risk factors which include cardiovascular disease (CVD). This is due to high
population. The healthcare systems are grouped into private and public. The public healthcare is
free to those who live below the poverty line. The private healthcare is for the upper middle class
and the upper class and offers better services than the public healthcare facilities.
Canada is an arctic region country located on the northern part of North America. It has a
population of more than 37 million and it covers an area of 9.98 million square kilometer. The
country uses English and French as their official languages. The major religion is Christianity and

country has also faced some crisis mortality. Another crisis facing the country is the use of drugs
and substance, 47,000 deaths annually are caused by substance abuse. This has also led to increase
in crime. Cancer is the first killer disease in Canada, followed by heart diseases and stroke. The
country has Medicare which is a publicly funded health care coverage. Those who do not qualify
for this supplementary services pay through private health insurance plan. The first risk factor in
Canada is insecurity and crime due to high usage of drugs and substance mostly by the youth.
Another risk factor is feeding habits, where the population prefers high calorie foods, increasing
chances of obesity and sugar related diseases. The healthcare coverage is sufficient, monitored at
state levels and also funded and slightly legislated at the federal level (Sibley et al, 252).
