Directions for "Walk Through Geologic Time" assignment.Assignment for each student: This is a “picture based” look at Earth's Geologic History from your perspective. Each of you will create a different look back through Earth’s history focusing on your own interests. Start by looking through Chapter-13 and other sources that you may find on the web. Select ten different major events in the Earth's Geologic History that you find particularly interesting. Copy an image or draw it yourself (for maximum points see suggestions below), one for each of the events selected using a separate 8.5 x 11-inch paper for each. Then write a short paragraph describing the event, the age and why/what you personally found interesting about the event. You will have ten separate pieces of paper in the end with a drawing and a write up on each. Be sure to include the age of when the event occurred AND the footage at which your figure will be placed on the timeline, BEING SURE TO INCLUDE ALL CALCULATIONS!Make a Black and White Xerox copy of each page (this should include the age and footage). This copy is what you be placing on the “timeline” that will be completed by the class. The original documents will be turned in to me at that time of the walk.HINT: It will be useful to list the age in millions of years not years. EXAMPLE: 10,000,000 years would be 10 m.y.).Your walk through geologic time will be a group activity involving the use of a surveyor's tape marked in feet and tenths of a foot (NOT IN INCHES). Zero feet will mark the present. The scale we will use is 1 ft. equals 10 million years (m.y.), hence a tenth of a foot (0.1 ft) will equal 1.0 m.y. As a class we will be constructing a scaled representation of the geologic history of the Earth using your surveyor's tape and your images.SUGGESTIONS FOR OBTAINING MAXIMUM POINTS1.) Images from sources other than the book will be worth more points than those in the book. So find images from other sources, for example the web/internet.2.) Instead on copying (cut and pasting) the image, draw the image by hand. Better yet, be creative. Using what you have found and read in the book and on the web, draw your own rendition on the event.3.) Be sure to put your name on EACH page to receive credit.4.)
