When it comes to children upbringing, the styles which parents use play an integral role
in how the children develop over time. By definition, parenting style is a psychological construct
that embodies the tactics which parents utilize in child raising. The quality of parenting style that
a parent uses is more paramount than the quantity of time that a parent spends with children. This
paper, therefore, will explore the four main parenting styles of authoritative, authoritarian,
indulgent and uninvolved in relation to the given case scenario as well as offer strengths and
weaknesses of each of them.
Indulgent
From the case scenario given in which Danny hits his family’s house and breaks a
window, his parents can react differently to the incident. For example, the parents may react in
an indulgent manner. This is a parenting style which is also called permissive. In this type,
parents are warm and accepting and make few demands for children (Shloim, Edelson, Martin &
Hetherington, 2015). Ideally, indulgent parents are lenient and allow some freedom to their
children. This type of parent does this in fear of thwarting their children’s’ creativity and sense
of self. In actuality, they are responsive than demanding. Also, indulgent parents try to be friends
with their children. In the incident of Danny, the parents may react in this permissive manner.
The parents may react in this manner due to the friendship that they have developed with Danny.
