Description
In order to begin your literature review, write critiques for three journal articles relevant to your case study/single subject design intervention (Major Assign)
My case study/single subject: Caucasian man (59) suffering from depression, obesity, and loneliness. Retired, does not have any family near him, and does not leave his home (maybe when going to the grocery store). Loves ordering delivery service, has home connect services but home connect aid does not cook for him (a cause of ordering delivery food services).
While writing your three critiques consider all the information in provided in chapter 14.
Textbook used: Royse, D., Thyer, B. A. & Padgett, D. K. (2016). Program Evaluation: An Introduction to An Evidence Based Practiced Approach 6th ed, Boston, MA: Wadsworth, Cengage Learning.
The critique should be approximately 2 pages in length per article and discuss sample used, measurement tools/instruments, findings, and how this article will help your project.

Introduction
There have been numerous scholarly efforts to explain the effect of physical activity on the
health of mentally ill patients. This paper will critique three scholarly articles addressing the issue
of mental illness and interventions that can be employed in improving health outcomes through
analysis of study samples, measurement tools, and findings. It will then relate the relevance of
each articles findings to the case study involving a retired 59-year old Caucasian man suffering
from depression, obesity and loneliness. The man rarely leaves his house except only when he
needs to purchase groceries, loves ordering food through delivery services and his home connect
aid doesn’t prepare his food as he gets food delivered to him.
Article 1: Integrating Physical Activity into Mental Health Services for Persons with
Serious Mental Illness
In their article, Integrating Physical Activity into Mental Health Services for Persons with
Serious Mental Illness, Richardson et al. (2005) explore, through an evaluation of evidence, the
rationale of integrating physical exercise interventions in the mental and physical health promotion
among people with mental conditions. A multicenter randomized controlled trial that involved
over 3000 participants and conducted by the Diabetes Prevention Program divided the participants
into three groups: one exposed to a rigorous diet and exercise program, a usual-care control group
and another medical management group that received metformin. It was found that the first group
exhibited a reduction in the incidence of diabetes recording a 14 percent incidence rate as
compared to the 29 percent rate for the control group. These results eclipsed the results for
medication at a doubled rate. The authors further argue that physical activity assists in weight loss
and reduces the risk of obesity and those with sedentary lifestyles and are obese have been found

to be at risk of earlier death given that patients with mental illnesses die 10-15 years earlier due to
ischemic heart disease on top of suicide and accidents.
Referring to a study conducted on more than 38000 people registered as receivers of care
under the Department of Veterans Affairs Health System, it was established that people with
mental illnesses were at higher risks of diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. The
study found that 19 percent of those diagnosed with schizophrenia were also diagnosed with
diabetes and the risk was as high for the depressed patients. Obesity is a major problem among
those diagnosed with mental illnesses based on a study where only 12% of 234 people reported
participating in the vigorous physical exercise. This risk increases with the continued use of
antipsychotic medication.
The authors introduce several physical activity intervention methods and largely compare
