KNH 495: Practicum in Sport Leadership and Management Understanding Contexts Assignment Understanding Contexts, as defined by Miami University Students learn how to understand contexts that inform how we make meaning out of issues and events. They may explore political, social, economic, historical, or other contexts that surround problems or issues confronted. They learn that contextual analysis and understanding opens up new ways of knowing not only about the world in which one lives, but also about oneself. In a 3-page paper, 1” margins, double-spaced respond to the following prompts. Use the section headings below. 1. The Legacy: • When we reflect back in 70-years, what will be the major political, social, economic, and/or historical legacy of your sports-generation? • Simply provide a brief introduction in which you repeat the question and provide your answer. Choose only one legacy. 2. The Catalyst: • What issues or events are the causes for this predicted legacy? • Historical moments typically center on a conflict; what is the conflict that is causing the legacy or legacies that you are predicting? • How do you know that this is a conflict? Document this conflict through at least three sources, at least one of which must be peer-reviewed. 3. The Context: • Why do you think that this will be the legacy of your generation? • How did we get to the present; i.e., what events in the past lead you to believe that this will be the legacy of your generation? • In what ways were these events political, social, economic, or historical? 4. The Future: • Predict what will happen in the near future, relative to the legacy. • How do you predict the conflict will resolve? • Why do you think that this will be the ultimate outcome? 5. The Impact: • Predict how this legacy will influence the way that you perceive sports and their role in society; be sure to include a rationale. • Predict how this legacy will influence the way that others (generally) perceive sports and their role in society; be sure to include a rationale. Examples of potential legacies include: sex equality, ethnicity/race issues, economic issues, drugs in sports, the concussion crisis, performance-enhancing drugs, trends in youth and college sports, et cetera. Concussion Crisis Legacy
1. The legacy.
Looking back 70 – years the most probable historical legacy of our sports

central nervous system injuries which relate to the spine. In sports, especially those sports
that involve contacts, such as football especially the National Football League (NFL), rugby,
boxing, and wrestling among others there is very high chances of this crisis (MacDonald,
2018). These games involve a lot of hostility on the pitch, and a lot of force is exerted on one
another primarily on the head and the shoulders leading to injury and shock.
2. The catalyst.
The concussion crisis is mainly caused by repeated injuries to the head or even
shock which occurs when one is suddenly hit on the head. For instance, we take a sport like
the professional American football. Although the NFL players wear helmets, they usually hit
