Generation #1: Traditionalists

Traditionalists as a generation are individuals who adhere to rules because they are conformers
and they work to contribute to the common good of the society. They have a high level of
sacrifice and dedication to tasks in return for a reward. This generation does not question what
authority has put forward and they believe in duty before pleasure. They have a focus on family
structures where giving back to the society is a key priority. Their key attributes include being
hardworking, maintaining law and order, being patriotic, respectful, and responsible. This
generation group is made up of people who are great financial savers and they have total trust in
the government. The level of authority at the workplace from traditionalists is dependent on the
tenure and seniority of the individual. They put a lot of effort to sustain job security thus making
them interested in flexible working hours striving hard to create a balance in their daily lives
after working most of the time. They believe that work is not supposed to be fun and therefore
have a high tendency to adhere to rules and understand the procedures. This is the generation that
will feel frustrated by what they consider as indiscipline because they consider respect, logic, and
structure as key values, especially in a spontaneous and relaxed work environment.
Traditionalists are conservative and adore a personal touch in the workplaces (Lancaster et. al.,
(2002).
Traditionalists utilize adapted technology which is made up of options such as rotary
phones, face to face communication and writing memos. The key during Traditionalists era
includes the WWII, Korean War, Great Depression, New Deal, Rise on Corporations and the
Space Age. They are key Philanthropists, Civil right activist, politicians, and philanthropists. The
notable figures of the traditionalist generation include Bob Dole and Elizabeth Taylor. They are

individuals who experienced hard times while growing up which were followed by times of
prosperity.

Generation #2: Baby Boomers
The baby boomers generation does not only define an entire era but also continue to be an
important part of today's work environment. They are individuals who are portrayed as seasoned
and wise leaders or experts in certain fields and possess a wide base of experience. They move
around with a lot of critical knowledge on certain issues and have wisdom for decades on matters
of economics, industrial production, and corporate changes. Even though they represent a sense
of history in their area of expertise, they are at times seen negatively by the younger generation.
Baby boomers are people who were brought up on a brick and mortar viewpoint of productivity.
Boomers prefer a workplace with several other staff members in the same office and they utilize
face to face communication on a daily basis (Lancaster et. al., (2002).
Technology used
Baby boomers use the technology they have learned/acquired. There is also a big gap in the use
of technology in corporate communications. Baby boomers tend to believe in a proven, authentic
approach to face-to-face or voice communication: they use email, text, publications or tweets for
business communication to a lesser extent than other generations. The baby boomer's philosophy
is that if you want to do something, pick up the phone and call directly instead of waiting for an
email or text response (Lancaster et al., (2002).The key events include efforts on Civil Rights,
Vietnam War, Sexual Revolution, Cold War/Russia, and Space Travel. The major movement of
this generation involved civil right activist, politician, and philanthropists. The famous figures of
