In the global business environment, it is essential for a business to know the ways of
conducting cross-cultural negotiations with minimum conflicts. First, it is important to learn the
culture of the other party in the negotiation (McCarthy et al. 118). Again, finding a way of
building trust to help use the appropriate strategies in the negotiation is important. Behavior at
the negotiation table should be based on cultural values and beliefs to avoid conflicts arising
from cultural differences. By understanding the values dictating behavior in the other culture, it
will be possible to adapt behavior in response. Therefore, the culture of the other side is
significant when preparing for the negotiation.
Also, to successfully hold negotiation indifferent cultures or societies with least conflicts
its important to find effective ways of bridging the cultural gap. With a huge diversity, there is a
high likelihood for disagreement (McCarthy et al. 122). For instance, time-consciousness is an
important aspect of western societies, but it is not in the Middle East. The other party should be
encouraged to adopt some of the foreign cultures. Also, finding common cultures between the
various sides can help in guiding the negotiation and reduce conflicts. Different styles of
negotiation should also be used.
An appropriate example to illustrate the issue of cross-cultural negotiations and conflict
mitigation is that of Apple's apology to China. This negotiation took place when the company's
Chinese customs had issues relating to warranty policy and the CEO apologized for an assured
