The "Diary of Medical Mission Trip" videos were informative and easy to understand. I am glad the GCU student was able to record her experiences in Haiti dealing with the earthquake. From watching the videos I believe primary intervention should be rescuing patients and giving them the care they need. Many people would be injured and still under the buildings. So, it is important to find people and give them medical help. Secondary intervention would be about controlling the communicable diseases. Many people are injured and it is easy to spread diseases. According to Maurer and Smith (2013), “Community health nurses play a vital role in eliminating or reducing the spread of disease by providing immunizations, prophylactic measures, and health education” (p. 209). In this case, nurses can provide vaccines for chickenpox, measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, influenza, and hepatitis A and B. It will effectively help control the communicable diseases. Also, nurses can teach people about health promotions, like sanitation. So people can avoid getting diseases by themselves. Tertiary intervention would be creating resources and services so people can take care of themselves and return to their norms. This way they have resources so they can get both physical and psychological help they need. This would also slowly help them return to their society.

The three proposed interventions fall under one of the component of postimpact phase. There are two components under postimpact phase. They are emergency and recovery. These three interventions fall under the recovery component. According to Maurer and Smith (2013), “Recovery begins during the emergency phase and ends with the return of normal community order and functioning” (p. 557). These three interventions start from rescue and first aid to returning to normal community. Some groups nurses would be working with are local governments, communities, American Red Cross, and volunteer groups. Volunteer groups can be both from local communities and international communities.
