Math Unit III board question

How is the decimal expansion of an irrational number different from that of a rational number? Provide an example of an irrational number, integer, whole number, and natural number. What are some ways that you could use these types of numbers in the real world?

This is what my classmate wrote and I have to respond to it Unit III

A rational number will eventually settle into a repeating pattern where a irrational number continues forever. Pi is an example of an irrational number. An integer is a whole number that can be positive, negative, or zero. A whole number is a positive number including zero, without any decimal or fractional parts. A natural number example is 1,2,3,4,5 or also called positive integers. I use decimals on a daily basis if I am figuring out a tip at a restaurant or tax on an order I have placed. I use whole numbers when shopping in the store or online.

Math Board Question IV

Acres of Pizzas (pizzas are round)

It is estimated that Americans eat 100 acres worth of pizza a day. Assume that they are large pizzas with a diameter of 14 inches.

  • Find the number of square inches in a large pizza.
  • An acre has 43,560 square feet and a square foot has 144 square inches. How many square inches are there in 100 acres?
  • How many large pizzas do Americans eat each day?
  • If a large pizza has eight slices, estimate how many slices per second American eat.

What is another real world situation in which similar calculations are used?
