Q1.
The Black Panther movie is culturally significant because of several reasons. Firstly, the
movie shows the African culture and heritage, distorting the media stereotyping of the Africa
culture and people of African descent. The superhero blockbuster has an all-black cast, director,
soundtrack, and a black African storyline. Secondly, the movie displays and depicts positive
aspects of the African culture like beauty through its cast, courage, and the ingenuity of Africans
and even those in Diaspora. The film has Black superheroes, black scientists and style,
technology, and color (Johnson, 2018). The movie is also culturally significant through the use
of languages as it is based in Africa and characters speak some of the African dialects that are
translated in the subtitles. The use of African dialects and characters speaking English using their
local accent is aimed at preserving the African culture. Characters like Erik Killmonger seek
their cultural roots when he goes to Wakanda to know their Black history. Again, the movie
depicts different African tribes who live together and speak different African dialects.

demonstrating that black superheroes are no longer sidekicks or conceived out of dire situations.
