Loves Inconsistency is a poem which was written by Francesco Petrarch. The poem is
about the persona's love for a certain lady so much. However, the lady does not love her back
something which causes the persona a lot of pain and confusion. He says I fear and hope, I burn
and freeze likewise and this shows that he is confused (Petrarca, 2014). Even though Petrarch
was deeply in love with the lady who did not feel the same for him. The poem begins with a
literary device called pun brought about by the play about the name of Laura. Laura means the
breeze in Italian language (Petrarca, 2014). Therefore when Petrarch refers to her as a gentle
breeze, he associates her lover with a cool and good thing that brings joy. The sonnet is divided
into octet and sestet which are further divided into quatrains and two triplets. Loves
Inconsistency is sonnet which is divided into two stanzas. The first eight lines are octave while
the last six lines are known as sestet. The persona presents an argument, feelings, arguments, and
observation in octave which creates a turn between the eight and the ninth lines. This, therefore,
changes the direction of the continuing narrative making the sestet a vehicle for a counter
argument and clarification of the octave (Petrarca, 2014). The persona expresses his
