1. REVIEW OF CASES/CLIENTS/ACTIVITIES (Use pseudonyms only) Week 1- I sat in during a two-day training that is provided to soldiers that have been involved in any alcohol or drug-related incidences. The training is mandatory for these particular soldiers in order to fulfill training hours for getting into trouble with either drugs or alcohol. The training had soldiers fill out certain questions about drugs, alcohol or personal questions during the training and willingly share information with the others in the class. Week 2-I helped facilitate a group that was faith-based during Vacation Bible School. I worked with children of multiple races and ethnicities. We talked about their families, God, and played games that were focused around a message from the Bible and relating to the topic of that day Faculty Comments: 2. USE OF KNOWLEDGE - Provide an example illustrating use of theory, research, HBSE, Hispanic content, human rights. In both of my experiences during weeks one and two, I interacted and worked with people of all races and ethnicity, including Hispanic clients and children. I got to practice remaining respectful and unbiased in each setting while listening to information provided by each person. I also communicated with parents of the children and learned more about each of their families. Faculty Comments 3. USE OF SOCIAL WORK SKILLS - Generalist or advanced, micro/mezzo/macro, including culturally competent service delivery and practice with Hispanic clients I engaged with all people and children of different races and ethnicity. During my VBS experience, I had time to talk with each of the children and learn more about each of their families and what they like to do. Faculty Comments: 4. USE OF SOCIAL WORK VALUES - Issues related to professional identity, ethics, etc. These first two weeks were really a focus on building human relationships for me. I am communicating with other professionals in the community for upcoming projects for ASAP, as well as working with families in the community for the Chapel. I was also able to practice behaving in a trustworthy manner in the training class so that the soldiers would not feel disrespected or judged. Faculty Comments: 5. PERFORMANCE ISSUES: STRENGTHS/GROWTH I was able to remain unbiased during the training that was given to the soldiers as well as my VBS group experience. Particularly, the training for the soldiers was important because I did not want them to feel judged. In that situation, although it is mandatory, our hope is that the soldiers will learn and grow from the experience. In order to do this, it is important for them to have an open discussion during the class. If I were to make them feel judged, they may not have been willing to have an open dialog about the discussion questions that were presented during the class. As far as growth, I even learned some information related to drugs and alcohol that I did not previously know prior to the class. Faculty Comments: 6. PERFORMANCE ISSUES: AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT I need to familiarize myself with the information for the training more so that I can help lead the class next time. I also need to have more experience facilitating and speaking in groups. Faculty Comments 7. AREAS TO WORK ON OVER THE NEXT WEEK: Familiarize myself with the Prime for Life teaching booklet as well as find a more organized schedule between both sites. Faculty Comments:
