Employees are attracted and retained by organizations that appreciate and promote their diversity.
When the employees are given an opportunity to grow and express their differences in the work
environment, they work better, and their results are better. It is not different for GE Lighting
company, which has a diverse workforce. Diversity is essential for the company since workforce
diversity fosters mutual respect among the employees. By relating with employees from different
backgrounds, nationalities, abilities, and strengths, employees will be able to appreciate with each
other and peacefully interact. Diversity increases employee exposure, therefore enabling them to
cope up with the challenges from within and outside the organization. It also improves the
organization’s reputation, since by appreciating diversity the organization is shown through fair
employment. Through this, the status of the organization is expressed hence attracting a vast pool
of qualified employees. When the organization is committed to ensuring diversity, customers
become loyal, therefore increasing profitability and opportunities to the employees. Variety also
helps the growth of employees, in skills and knowledge hence improving their productivity.
Diversity is a significant advantage to the organization, but the difference should be controlled.
The top manager must ensure that the difference is managed so that its benefits can be achieved.
It is necessary to understand the individual’s preconceptions, and biases, before reaching out to
the diverse employees. As a manager, it is essential understand that people have view issues
differently and this will help him know how to deal with diversity. It is also necessary to invest in
employee training so that the policies that encourage appropriate behavior can be enhanced.

Exercise also helps the employees learn how to deal with the challenges that are associated with
diversity. Managers should also create an empowered atmosphere, which appreciates diversity,
and encourages them to grow as they are. The managers should also provide orientation, where

employees when it comes to diversity. It is also essential to embrace team building and free
communication within the organization hence improving peaceful co-existence.
Just like any organization, GE Lighting is likely to suffer a lot in case of low workforce diversity.
To begin with, the failure to appreciate difference leads to conflicts among the employees.
Employees will fail to understand each other and most of the time will be spent solving problems
and fights in the organization. Low diversity often leads to resistance to change, where some
