BSN Interview Directions


  1. Initiate contact with a BSN nurse who is currently active in practice, who became an RN through an Associate Degree or diploma program, and subsequently went on for a BSN.
  2. Ask the nurse if he/she would consent to a 20-30 minute interview with you.
  3. Assure the RN that you will not use his/her name or agency in any written or oral report.
  4. You may provide him/her with a list of questions prior to the interview, but it is not necessary.
  5. Meet with the individual in person. You may not use email or phone to conduct this interview.
  6. Be sure to allow adequate, uninterrupted time for the nurse to provide thoughtful answers.
  7. Engage the nurse in a conversation and ask the nine questions below. Include a professional question of your own.
  8. Include the questions and the interviewee’s responses below the questions.
  9. Answer questions thoroughly in paragraph form.

1. What type of nursing education program(s) have you completed? Please include program
and date.
I have completed three nursing education programs. The first nursing program I studied was in the year
2005. I had completed high school that previous year, 2004 and enrolled for an Associate Degree in
Nursing (ADN). I joined Columbia University School of Nursing to study ADN for two years from April
2005 to April 2007 and graduated in August 2007. I then enrolled to another program which was a
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) at the same University and started the program the
following year, this time from August 2007 to August 2011 and graduated on December same year. I then
enrolled for a Master of Science in Nursing on 2013 at the University of Pennsylvania. Having to bot an
ADN and a BSN, I study for one and half years from May 2013 to September 2015 and was awarded my
MSN degree on December same year as soon as I was done with my research project proposal.
2. Describe your personal philosophy of nursing?
My personal philosophy of nursing delves to enclose the profession of transmitting and passing the
science of nursing in a comprehensive, integrated, and universal manner with dignity and compassion. I
seek to upkeep the nursing profession in a holistic manner and ensure that patients acquire optimal care at
all times.
3. What factors went into your decision to earn a BSN?
It is all about recognition, respect, being professional, and registration. Having an AND can designate one
