English as Official Language
About half of all countries in the world have official languages. For example, the official
language in Germany is German. In the US, there is no official language though 32 states have
already provided the use of English as the official language, there is no such a legal framework at
the federal level, which means that there is no official language that can be deduced to the US
citizens. In the US, there are 350 different languages which are spoken, and the idea of having an
official language is one that is not only discriminative but also illogical, and overlooking the
diversity of the country; the values which has defined the country since its inception.
The truth is America has never had an official language. The idea is that rather than see it as an
anomaly, the very lack of an official language is one that has defined America for as long as the
country has existed. However, English does not even qualify as one of the languages which were
being spoken in America, as this would be one of the indigenous languages which had been
spoken before in America. Interestingly, more than 370,000 people currently speak these
indigenous languages. The situation continues to change because there are projections that
indicate that in the next three decades, there will be no one dominant race in the US.
