Description

Following a lecture and applied exercises regarding ethnic-sensitive interviewing, students will read a process recording of a student’s interaction with a client in her field placement and then respond to questions evaluating the interaction in terms of ethnic-sensitivity, and practitioner cultural competency. The exercise is titled “Hanging in There” When Differences between Client and Worker Are at Issue.” In addition to building competency in ethnic-sensitive interviewing this exercise aims to help students: identify direct and indirect cues indicating that race or other areas of difference are at play in the client-social worker relationship; develop comfort in addressing such cues; andbe able to respond genuinely and quickly “on one’s feet” to emotionally charged issues. 3-5 pages using APA style, cover page and reference page required
