Student Action Plan
You will be assigned a HAC Peer Advisor to guide you through the Student Action Plan. The Student
Action Plan is the second part of the Ethics Seminar, and it is designed to help you consider your values
in the context of your personal, professional and academic life. All written components of the action
plan must be typed, in 12 pt, with 1.15 spacing, Times New Roman/Arial/Calibri font.
The Action Plan consists of three parts:

I. The Action Plan Proposal
The Proposal is a letter that details the Assignments you have chosen to complete, and answers the
following questions for each assignment/set of assignments:
What do you hope to gain by completing this assignment?
What personal improvements do you hope to achieve?
Once you complete the proposal, please send it to your assigned Peer Advisor. Upon approval of the
proposal, you can proceed to complete the assignments.
II. The Action Plan Assignments
The matrix below outlines your assignment options. It is important to note that you may choose to do
one alternate assignment of your choosing to fulfill any category with approval from your Peer Advisor.
You must select at least one assignment from each category and have a total of five points. Each
assignment may only be done once to satisfy the point requirements.

III. The Action Plan Reflection
The Reflection letter must be completed after your Assignments and before the meeting with your Peer
Advisor. It answers the following questions:
What has led you to complete the Ethics Seminar and why?
Assignment Discussion (for each assignment): Did the assignment achieve the goals discussed in
your Proposal? If so, what did you learn? If not, why not?
What, if anything, did you gain from going through the ethics process?
This is meant to be an introspective evaluation, and therefore it is to your personal benefit to answer
honestly.
All documents (Proposal, all Assignments and Reflection) must be completed and brought together to
the meeting with your Peer Advisor AND sent to your Peer Advisor in pdf form prior to your meeting.

General Assignment Guidelines
You must have at least one Assignment from each category (Academic, Professional and
Personal) and you must have a total of five points.
Unless otherwise specified, you will only receive credit for doing the Assignment once. Doing
two versions of an assignment to receive double the point value is not allowed unless otherwise
specified. For example, you may not interview two different people about corporate values to
receive a total of four points.
All Assignments must be written in 12 pt, Times New Roman/Arial/Calibri font, and have
1.15 spacing with 1" margins. Please be sure to review your assignments for grammatical and/
or word usage errors prior to submission, including citations if necessary.
The Action Plan Packet, including the Proposal, all Assignments and the Reflection, must be
emailed in PDF form to your assigned Advisor. The Action Plan Packet must also be printed out
and brought to your Advisor meeting so the two of you can discuss it.

Academic Assignments
Faculty Letter of Apology
(Can't do this Assignment AND the Personal Essay. Just one or the other.)
Name of Assignment: Faculty Letter of Apology
Category: Academic
Number of Points: 1 Point. 1 additional Point will be awarded for emailing the letter to the
faculty member, for a total of 2 Points.
Conditions/Constraints: N/A
Assignment Description: Write a formal note of apology to your Faculty Member describing
the incident that happened, how you are apologetic for what happened, what you have learned
from the Ethics Seminar, and explaining what steps you will take in the future to prevent this
from happening again.
Assignment Requirements: This assignment must be at least 400 words and should follow the
General Assignment Guidelines. You are welcome to go above that if you would like, but it
MUST be at least 400 words. Make sure your letter is your own original work, do NOT copy any
formatted letters from the Internet. If you plan to email your letter, it MUST be emailed before
your meeting with your Honor Advisory Council Member, and your Advisor must be BCC’ed
on the email.
Attending Professor/TA Office Hours
Name of Assignment: Attending Professor/TA Office Hours
Category: Academic
Number of Points: 1 Point
Conditions/Constraints: Office hours must be attended for the class that the violation occurred
in.
Assignment Description: Attend the professor or TA office hours of the class that the violation
occurred in. Because office hours are one of the many resources for students on campus, this
time should be used to gain help on course material - not merely attending for the purpose of
attending.
Assignment Requirements: Submit a document outlining what was discussed during office
hours to your assigned HAC Advisor. The document must be at least 300 words and should
follow the General Assignment Guidelines. You should write what specifically was discussed at
the meeting, if you think you gained anything from going to office hours (if so - what; if not why not), and whether the experience was applicable to your particular case.

Category: Academic
Number of Points: 2 Points
Conditions/Constraints: An assignment can only be redone if it was an individual project or
homework. Quizzes or tests cannot be redone.
Assignment Description: The purpose of this assignment is to practice time management and to
help you accomplish the original goals of the assignment. You must submit your redone
assignment as well as its original requirements. Samples and other materials may or may not
have originally been provided by your professor.
Assignment Requirements: The assignment must meet the original requirements as set forth by
the professor.
Honor Code Campaign Infographic
Name of Assignment: Honor Code Campaign
Category: Academic
Number of Points: 2 Points
Conditions/Constraints: There are no constraints on this Assignment. You can make it as
elaborate and as detailed as you can imagine.
Assignment Description: The goal of the Honor Code Campaign Infographic is for the student
to think of a new online campaign idea that will help spread information about the Honor Code
across campus and will make more Georgia Tech students aware of the Honor Code.
Assignment Requirements: Create a one page infographic about the Georgia Tech Honor Code.
This infographic should use a combination of graphics, statistics, and information to address the
following:
- who is impacted by Honor Code violations
- examples of Honor Code violations
- prevention tips / alternatives to violating academic policies
- consequences of Honor Code violations
- statistics on any current events or trends relevant to this topic
A minimum of three sources should be used and cited (APA format) on a bibliography/works
cited page. Be sure to review your submission for grammatical and/or word usage errors,
including citations if necessary.

Assignment Description: For this assignment, you will compose a professional development
plan for your dream company, meaning you will assess your own personal goals and mission, as
well as your short-term and long-term career goals. The deliverable that you will submit will
contain each of these sections:
Section A: Career Plan
In this section, you will first describe your dream company – its components and why this type
of company is your aspiration. Then, you will write your personal mission statement. This can
include past successes, your core values, your potential contributions, and your general goals,
among other things.
Section B: Short-Term Career Goals (1-5 years)
Use the SMART acronym to write each of your goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Results-based, Time-bound
To compose your goals, it is easiest to write them in this format: 1) State the action you will take;
2) Describe an area of focus for the learning; 3) Include the rationale; and 4) Add the activities
Example: I will enhance my abilities in educating students in order to improve student learning
by attaining my Masters Degree in Curriculum Development.
Section C: Long-Term Career Goals (5-10 years)
Follow the same criteria for the short-term goals
Section D: Reflection
Answer the questions: How will these goals benefit you during your time at your dream
company? What areas do you feel are the most important when developing your own
professional standards?

Assignment Description: Write a short essay describing a specific belief you have pertaining to
honor and integrity. This can range from honesty in your personal life, ethical dilemmas at work
or school, or even the broader topics of injustice or environmental concerns. Be specific and
clearly state your belief in one sentence in the essay. Use the rest of the essay to describe why
you have that belief by considering moments when it was formed, tested, or changed. The
writing style and content should reflect your own personality and thoughts. Many samples on

Brief Overview: “The Death of Ivan Ilyich” is a 19th Century Russian story written by Leo
Tolstoy about a carefree simple man who lives live according to society’s ideals, and rises up to
become a highly regarded official of the Court of Justice. He develops an unusual but terminal
disease, which brings him to introspect whether he has indeed lived a righteous and good life,
and tries to find the true meaning of life. In his last few days he truly realizes the meaning of life,
learns how to combat his fear of death, and forgives his family for not showing him enough
compassion.
Assignment Description: Write a short reflective essay in which you think about the life you
have led so far and whether it is righteous or not, according to you. You can talk about your
entire life in general, or describe one or more specific incidents or situations to substantiate your
reasoning.

1. The main goal of this assignment is self-analysis: to define what is right, what is wrong and
where you place yourself in this subjective scale.
2. Think clearly. Your essay should reflect your personal opinion in this matter, and not someone
