Stages of Formation
Forming is the stage of gathering information about tasks as a team member, about rules
and about working methods. It is a phase in which those who want to be part of a group or team
move from the individual status to a group or team member status. They define their role as
members, they want to know the others and establish relationships with them, while avoiding
themes or delicate situations. In the case of teams that have changed leaders, the mission or the
members, they need continuity. Factors that determine team development are: mission, purpose
and common goals; mutual trust; problem solving and decision making skills; effective
interpersonal communication; ways of conflict resolution; the use of resources; reporting and
control procedures; evaluation; creativity (Hennen, 2014).
