Literature is driven by conflict. Examine a conflict on the storie hill like withe elephant form (ERNEST HEMINGWAY ) . This could be an internal conflict or an external conflict between two characters or a character and his/her environment. What is the nature of the conflict, and how is it resolved? Introduction
The book “Hills like White Elephants” is a short literary work based on a short dialogue
between two lovers. The author sought to represent conflict commonly found in relationships
after being subjected to a threat that bounds to change their lifestyle (Hemingway, n.d.). This
conflict usually ends up not having definitive solutions whenever they take on different
approaches, emotional and the other rational when searching for a solution. We shall discuss
some of the instances where the author clearly portrays this conflict in the quest to support the
theme.
The Nature of the Conflict
The internal conflict between the girl’s emotions and rationale is seen in her description if
the hills when she said that "They look like white elephants," (Hemingway, n.d.). White
elephants are symbolic of the sheer size of the difference between the two ways of looking at
life. The side she was in, the side the man had brought her, made her feel “...amused.” and have
“a fine time” (Hemingway, n.d.). But it still felt hot, and there were no trees and no shade. Just
