As stated in the Study Guide, the student should begin early in the course by reading pages 11-38 of THE BLESSING by Gary Smalley and John Trent. This will provide an understanding of the concept of "a blessing" and how such a technique can be employed in the context of family enrichment.Then during this preliminary reading, the student will then select an individual (more than one is acceptable, but not recommended) to be the recipient of "the blessing."
Over the course of several weeks, the student will read further and make practical application of the elements of the Blessing, making notes along the way.The objective is to employ the various elements of "the blessing" as described by the authors in such a way as to experience new levels of awareness of the needs and feelings of others and to enhance the relationship with the selected family member(s).Ideally, this should be a healthy and positive experience for both the student and the recipient(s) of the student's blessing.
Assignment 8 consists of a report (5 to 6 pages, double spaced) of your personal application of and experience with “the Blessing” as a project of this course. Identify the individual(s) you selected to be the recipient(s) of your blessing, and how you went about applying each element for this assignment. Discuss whether anything about the project was negative or uncomfortable, and what about it was positive and beneficial.Also relate how you plan to adapt it to your own family life in the future.
Please note: This is not a book report.It is a discussion of your own practical application of the principles of the Blessing, planned and carried out specifically for this course assignment.
The Blessing Project is based on the textbook THE BLESSING by Gary Smalley and John Trent. This involves reading the second textbook, plus engaging in a practical application of the principle called "the blessing." The Blessing
In most cases, we are often bombarded with life changing experiences that forever
change our perspective of how we view and relate with each other. In the Book ‘The Blessing:
Giving the Gift of Unconditional Love and Acceptance’ by John Trent and Gary Smalley, the
authors have incorporated and explained the values of appreciating the little things in live that in
most cases we would tend to ignore. Just as the title of the book states, unconditional love is very
important in human lives as it helps creates a perfect relationship between each other living
according to the biblical teachings. Further, taking a look at the Bible, we are often bounded by
the word love in so many instance and the most fundamental circumstance is when God
sacrifices his only son to come down to earth, live among humans, suffer and die for our sins
(John 3:16 Good News). Therefore, we may tend to view and ask ourselves if God himself is full
of unconditional love to a point that he sacrifices his only son for us sinful humans, who are we
as human not to exercises that gift of the Holy Spirit.The report takes into account the lessons
from the book and incorporates in the context of family enrichment. Further the report analyzes
the elements of “the blessing” as described in the book and employs it in a real personal situation
as it explores the negatives and positive impact brought about by blessing. In addition, the report
explores new experiences derived from such acts that results to enhancement of relationship with
the blessed person. Finally, the report provides a detailed discussion on the various techniques
that one can incorporate the lessons learnt from the book in their family in the future.
However, we often speak of blessing but do we really understand its full scope? Blessing
according to biblical scriptures can be used to explain as a situation where God grants power to
something or somebody to do what they are designed to do. In fact, the first time we encounter
the blessing in the bible is after God created Adam and Eve where they are blessed and told to

multiply and fill the world (Gen. 1:22 Good News). Therefore, we understand that blessing is
God given and we should always exercise the power bestowed unto us – may it be a parent or a
