Common sense by Thomas Maine is a pamphlet that was published in 1776 that called
for America’s independence from the British as well as the establishment of a democratic
government after independence. In the pamphlet, Maine documented all the reasons America
should strive for its freedom from British rule. His disdain for the monarchy is well expressed as
he finds the logic behind this form of government flawed. He points out that trying to rule
another country across the ocean was very impractical. It was an administrative nightmare
because it took months for news to travel from England to America. This made it impossible to
invoke laws or address issues effectively since communication took too long, and as a result,
there was no coherency between England and its colony. Through this controversial document,
Thomas Maine was able to become one of the biggest advocates for the American Revolution; he
was able to unite the colonists by opening their eyes on how the British were holding them back
