All nurses have a certain degree of leadership and management responsibility. Some of you currently function in a formal leadership role and many of you will transition to this in the future. The American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) has identified core competencies in the domains of communication and relationship management, knowledge of health care environment, leadership, professionalism, and business skills necessary for nurse leaders. In this workshop, you will analyze the AONE Nurse Executive competencies demonstrated by a nurse leader in a formal leadership role.
Upon successful completion of the course material, you will be able to:
Analyze specific American Organization of for Nursing Leadership competencies exhibited by a nurse in a formal leadership role.

Contemplate the effectiveness of a nurse leader in a formal leadership role (charge nurse, director of nursing, nursing manager, administrator, or nursing instructor). This nurse could be a current manager, or a leader you identify from a past encounter. From the list, select "Nurse Executive Competencies."
Write a three to four page paper (in addition to cover page and reference page) that analyzes the effectiveness of this leader in relation to all five of the AONE domains.
Include the following criteria when writing this paper:
Describe the nurse selected, including the title and scope of their current leadership role.
Analyze strengths and weaknesses of leader in all five domains (communication and relationship management, knowledge of health care environment, leadership, professionalism, and business skills). The "domain" is the large category, i.e. leadership.
Analyze how the leader you identified met or did not meet specific characteristics listed under the domain. Use at least two competencies from each domain to describe the leadership of your chosen leader. The competency is the sub-category under a given domain, i.e. for leadership: systems thinking and change management. You may use any of the bullet points under the competency as part of your analysis.
