Introduction
Emergency is a common occurrence to all issues that surround a human life in different
types, places and even situations whereby proper planning is necessary to help minimize or solve
the risks that may come spontaneously. Emergency such as natural disaster, tornado, typhoon
and floods are common in some parts of the world and it is for this purpose that specific
measures should be taken in accordance to the risks involved correcting and helping facilitate
response as quickly as possible. Therefore, a plan of action is very important to fight emergency
or rather to manage them where possible hence the features and arms responsible for emergency
management are discussed as shown below.
Role of Government in Emergency Management
The government of any state has a number of functions to perform in relation to
emergency management through various ways that include;

Government policy: The government should contain various policies and laws to guide
how a risk that may be experienced at any given time, be dealt with in order to protect the
lives of its citizens. For the case of natural disaster like floods, the government can build
gabions along the roads, advice citizens on proper farming methods to reduce floods
("Licensing & Certification | IDPH").

Legislation: Effective laws should be put in place to educate people on what to do and
how to handle an emergency to reduce the impact where possible with an aim of
facilitating rapid improvement on major results of risks.

Production of information: The government should provide reliable information
regarding matters of emergency to minimize the ignorance that may affect most people in

the country. With provision of information, people may gain skills and necessary criteria
to at least handle risks that may come at a time of no preparedness. Information can be
