In the modern society, there are a link between mental illnesses and violence. The mental
illnesses results to a harsh stigma for those affected and an unconducive environment for
psychiatrists. These perception may lead to more consequences like discrimination and isolation
from the society. Mental illnesses have given psychiatrists hard times in treating violent patients.
There are various mental diseases that cause the patient to be violent as a result. Schizophrenia is
a mental disorder that affects most people especially the adolescents and individuals in the early
adulthood (Henderson, et al 2015). The people affected by schizophrenia change in their thinking
and their behaviors. Schizophrenia makes people to have hallucinations, movement disorders and
thinking disorders. The disease has been known to have higher possibility of running in families,
although it is not always the case. Some people can be affected by the disease without having
another family member being affected by the disease. In other cases, it is not a must that one will
inherit the disorder from their family members. There are different genes that are at a high risk of
being affected by the disease (Hendrie, et al 2013). The causes of schizophrenia are not well
known. Medication is given to the patient affected by suck kind of a disease.
Alcohol and substance abuse cause mental disorders in the body. As a result, patients
affected by the disease turn violent. A large number of women have committed homicide due to
alcoholism. Alcoholic people at times turn up fighting against each other in the clubs (Hendrie,
et al 2013). Some people cause violence in their families when they get drunk. Some kind of
patients are very quiet when sober, but turn violent and dangerous when they get drunk.
