Development of the Theory
Various theories have been forward to provide a lens to understand infidelity better.
Mostly, the investment model has been discussed along with supplemental theories. The
investment model is based on the interdependence theory that explains the continuance of people
in a relationship (Drigotas, Safstrom & Gentilia, 1999). The interdependence theory suggests that
individuals seek out and endure in rewarding relationships. More significantly, relational
companions seek to maximize the rewards and minimize the costs for themselves as well as their
