Introduction
HIV is a global health issue under focus in this paper. In the United States, it is estimated
that more than 1.1 million are infected with HIV, and more than 18 percent are unaware that they
living with the infection. Statistics by CDC revealed that in every 9.5 minutes, someone in the
United States becomes infected with HIV (CDC, 2016). The statistics by CDC further revealed
that African Americans represent more than 12 percent of the United States population with HIV
infection. Bisexuals and gay represent 67% of all the HIV diagnoses.
At the end of 2016, it was revealed that more than 36.7 million people in the world were
living with HIV/AIDS. In 2016 alone, it was estimated that approximately 1.8 million people
worldwide become newly infected with HIV. This represents roughly 5000 new infections per
day (CDC, 2016). Among the 1.8 million infections, children below 15 years accounted for
approximately 160000 newly infections. The prevalence rate is high in Africa. In 2016, 53% of
total HIV infection in the world originates Africa. AS of June 2017, 70% of the people living
with HIV were aware of their HIV status while the rest 30% were not aware of their HIV status.
