1) Discuss the similarities and/or differences between the external borders of New Europe
and the U.S. - Mexico border?
There are a number of similarities and differences between the US-Mexico border and
the borders in the new EU. Notably, both countries focus on the security of their people and
management of the overwhelmingly large number of people migrating into the two regions.
For instance, both the US and the EU have implemented the SMART border systems by
integrating technology and controls to monitor immigration and the flow of goods (Lehtonen
& Aalto, 2017). However, New Europe is more open to immigrants and a free flow of people
as compared to the US-Mexico border. One would agree that the US border system is headed
