Description

Instructions

Create a brief summary of the research method, and then design your plan to use to investigate your research topic.

Select a method and design appropriate for an applied study. Case studies, action research, and program development/evaluation are appropriate. Quantitative studies must demonstrate both internal and external validity (e.g., large, random samples, statistical power, and representativeness). Your summary must address the following:

  1. Note a specific method, and then design your plan to use in your research.
  2. Describe and substantiate the appropriateness of the method, and then design to respond to the stated problem, purpose, and research questions.
  3. Note how the proposed method and design accomplish the study goals, why the design is the optimum choice for the proposed research, and how the method aligns with the purpose and research questions.
  4. Provide appropriate foundational research method support for the proposed study design.
  5. Explain the particular data gathering techniques and data analyses processes. Sample size of the study population should be identified and must be appropriate and justified based on the nature of the study design. Quantitative analyses must include justified sample size determination.

Qualitative Design
When planning a research project, it is good to start by positioning yourself on how you see
the world and what you think can be researched on or studied. Finding a real objective world out
there or something real, true, and of objective that can be examined as a researcher is of
significance in finding a research project. When doing a research project, selecting the appropriate
research design is very crucial. A research design is a blueprint or a plan for conducting a study
describing when and where data are to be gathered or collected and analyzed with a maximum
control over the obstacles or factors that may interfere with the findings validity. A good research
design as a plan to answer the researcher’s research questions ensures that the data collected
effectively serves the purpose. Different research design exists, where a researcher can choose the
appropriate one depending on the research goal. These can be quantitative or qualitative, or mixed
(University Libraries, n.d.). This essay focusses on a summary of a qualitative research design for
my research project.
Qualitative design it is based on a qualitative approach of study, which is a systematic
subjective approach that focusses on gathering data through conversational and open-ended
communication. It is used to describe life situations and experiences to give them meaning. As a
researcher would use this approach to explore the experiences, perspectives, feelings, and behavior
of individuals relating to my research topic and emphasize the understanding of these elements.
The rationale of using this approach of qualitative research is to explore and describe the
experience of the participants such as with the nurses as the healthcare frontline professionals’
opinion on pain in patients that are diagnosed with dementia. This approach is appropriate for the
study as it can capture the nurses’ opinions regarding the subject (Lewis, 2015). The study design
will involve three phases, that is conceptual, narrative, and interpretative phases.
