The Greek culture has evolved over thousands of years. It, therefore, retains aspects of
the different civilizations and time periods which shaped it. It was, for instance, enriched by the
Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations through aspects such as language and art. In addition to art
and language, some of the other notable aspects of Greek culture are religion and philosophy. So
profound is this culture that it is responsible for the introduction of some critical ideologies such
as democracy. This paper discusses the Greek with emphasis on the influence their culture drew
from the Minoan and Mycenaean culture, their political and social achievements in the Archaic
period, and the differences between their religion and culture.

The Minoan and Mycenaean cultures lived on among the later Greeks. The influence of

the two cultures on the Greeks who lived long after the collapse of the civilizations is evident in
specific aspects of culture. These specific cultural aspects of the Greeks whose origin can be
traced back to the Minoan and Mycenaean culture include language, art, architecture, weaponry
and war, and most importantly in religion.

The language spoken by the Greeks who lived on after the collapse of the Minoan and
Mycenaean civilizations borrowed significantly from the two cultures. In fact, the Greek
alphabet is believed to have originated from a script acquired from the Minoan Cretans who had
learnt the art from the Phoenicians who had developed the art following their interaction with
