Traumatic reactions can come in all forms and vary in level of intensity. How a person reacts to a trauma can be dependent upon how the trauma was experienced. Not everyone experiences trauma the same nor do they react the same. Regardless, the trauma reactions are real, they are often intense, and they require specialized skill to provide the appropriate support and sensitivities to work through the process. Active duty military personnel, veterans, and noncombatants (those stationed in a war zone but not engaged in the act of combat) can experience multiple traumatic reactions to trauma. Reflect back upon the types of trauma you reviewed. Consider all the ways in which someone could react to horrific events that could occur during combat duty. For this Discussion, review the resources and videos in the week 2 module (Price et al 2012 and The effects of war and combat [parts 1 - 3]). Then select one of the military personnel represented with the three videos (The effects of war and combat [parts 1 - 3]) found in week 2. Carefully listen to their stories and identify at least one traumatic reaction that the individual you identified from the videos experienced - Please keep in mind that the traumatic reactions in the media may not be overt (in your post note which person you selected from the three videos). Consider how you might show sensitivity as a professional by normalizing the reaction being expressed by the military personnel you selected from the video - discuss how you would communicate this in the context of combat trauma.Identify one military personnel from the videos (The effects of combat and war [parts 1 - 3]) and describe one traumatic reaction you noticed - Please keep in mind that the traumatic reactions in the media may not be expressed overtly but may covertly be presented within the story the veteran is telling.
