This essay purposes to provide a contextual discourse of the Hennes & Mauritz AB
Company, with a keen interest in the company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and
industry threats, as well as a review of the company’s core values and competencies. H&M is a
Swedish clothing – retail company with global presence in that particular industry. It boasts to be
the 2nd largest clothing company in the world, led by Spanish fashion giant, Inditex. The
company produces and sells fashion products for all types of demographics ranging from
children, youth and adults of both genders.
The fast fashion clothing giant has multiple associates and subsidiaries and operates in
more than 60 countries across the globe. The company had as of 2017 opened over 4,500 stores
worldwide and employed more than 132,000 workers. With a wide range of products, H&M
boasts of global leadership in fashion clothing and has loyal customers across all clusters and
demographics. In addition, the company has a strong brand thanks to its diversified online
presence as well as a robust financial background. Weaknesses include the company’s
overdependence on third-party suppliers.
Opportunities for H&M are limitless, with e-Commerce and an expanding global market,
the company can as well open up retail centers in these regions and increase revenues. The
biggest threat facing the company is competition and the constantly-evolving fashion trends. The
key driver for the company’s success is its strong background on core values and competencies.
Key among these core competencies is the company’s competitive strategy which ensures that it
stays right on track in an industry filled with competitors and uncertainties. These core values
stem from a single business concept – fashion and quality at best prices.
