Your State's Advance Directive Law and Your Plan
This is a two-part discussion. Chapter 6 in your text outlines the Patient Self Determination Act (PDSA) of 1990, types of advance directive forms, and that AD laws and forms required, vary by state.
Part #1: Using the Internet, research the advance directive laws and forms required to be used in the state in which you live, identify your state and provide a summary of those laws, and copy and paste in the URL address(s) that support(s) the information in your post.
Part #2: Share with your fellow students your age, and if you do or don’t currently have a legal advance directive, and why or why not? If you so wish, you may also share if your family has had any experiences with family members being critically ill with or without advance directives and what your family would or would not do differently if a similar situation arose. Then respond to two fellow students’ posts.
Don't be afraid to let your personal opinions influence your initial discussion post, but in turn, respect the thoughts of others as we interact this week.

Medical Terminology
Elective Surgeries
Using your textbook and the Internet, tell us about an elective surgery you have read about. What are the risks of this surgery and do the risks outweigh the benefits? Would you undergo this surgery, why or why not?

For our next speech analysis, we’ll take a look at a speech from Julian Treasure, a speaker for Ted Talk. In this speech he talks about speaking so that people want to listen. There is power in our vocal image!
Evaluate the speaker’s presentation as if you were grading his effort. What do you notice about his posture? His language? What type of vocabulary and terminology are you hearing, that you don’t normally hear? What skills did Julian Treasure use from our article (25 Skills) from last week? What did he do well and what could he have worked on? Pay special attention to the speaker’s vocal image. Refer to things from our lecture this week that relate to this speech. Finally, share why vocal image is important when giving a speech; do you feel the speaker had good or poor vocal image in this speech?
Please watch this short video, then share your thoughts and reactions in the discussion board.
