Many studies have explored the role that self-efficacy plays in the attainment of learning
goals. These studies demonstrate that self-efficacy can enhance the application of effective
learning theories and management of cognitive behavior in classroom leading to more
appropriate conduct, increased academic progression and success and fostering social justice
(Agustiani et al., 2018). In this essay, the paper defines the concept of self-efficacy, its impact in
learning, influence on young learners who have special needs, strategies to enhance self-efficacy
in learners; especially young and the association that exists between the concept and selfregulation.
Idea of Self-Efficacy
Research on the concept of self-efficacy started in 1977 when Alberta Bandura defined
self-efficacy as one’s perceptions over their learning expectations and beliefs about their
