Implicit in this is the obviation of the individuals right or rights if it benefits the many. In other words, it involves the taking of the best decision that satisfies utility (Mill, 2016). Apart from bringing the best satisfaction utilitarianism is supposed to bring less suffering after the particular decision is made. This theory helps a person and tries to advise a person to know what is morally right. The central flaw with Utilitarianism Utilitarian flows following a two-dimensional concept. The first is the concept of what is valuable and the second is the concept of right action. The idea of what’s valuable argues that anything that brings happiness and less suffering is considered to be valuable. Secondly, is the concept of right action? This helps to maximize value and helps to produce the most out of it. The combination of the two is what is considered as Utilitarianism (Mill, 2016). However, it gives no exception in the making of a right decision. This theory of Utilitarianism was enforced by a British philosopher who was known as Jeremy Bentham. Does that render the concept unusable for us business managers This concept can be shifted and also can rightly fit in the business sector for business managers like us. Many are the times that the managers in business are caught up in a situation whereby they are required to make some tough decisions. The outcome of the decision, either way, brings out some adverse effects to the parties concerned but has to be made anyway. Using the utilitarian approach the manager can make a decision which will favor the majority at the expense of the minority. Application of The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas This book talks about a fictional of a particular nation of a community of people known as the Omelas. These people since their childhood have always lived a happy life. Everything about the city is described to be an almost perfect b the writer. However, al this happiness depends on the mistreatment of a specific innocent child so that the Omelas may enjoy a pleasant life (Le Guin, 2017). This can be related to an issue like global warming whereby coal burning can continue and improve the economy of counties at the expense of the changing of weather patterns among other effects. Machiavelli’s offer to business managers Machiavelli’s gave some little insights and offers to business managers on matters of doing good for the greater good. First of all, he gave some advice to managers whereby he told them that there is nothing significant that was ever achieved without danger or risk. This helps them in the decision-making process especially with the severe issues in their organization. Another offer was that of not working to preserve the status quo but rather than to achieve for the greater good. Conclusion Utilitarianism theory has been for a while used in the decision-making process by managers in tough tackled decisions. Contradicting issues will always arise in the workplace and must be handled no matter the consequences. It is, therefore, the mandate of business managers to solve them by taking the decision that will favor or side with the majority regarding numbers. An example of this is whereby one cannot give medication to one person at the expense of five. In such a situation the one person can be overlooked, and instead, the drug is given to save the five.
