There are several reasons as to why a worker joins unions. Firstly, it is for economic
reasons. In this case, workers will want to get higher wages, good working conditions, to
work fewer hours, and get increased benefits. All the mentioned factors can only be achieved
when the workers mobilize and form unions. Secondly, it is to ensure that there is job
security. In this instance, the workers want their jobs to be in existence in the future
(Waddington and Whitston 515). Additionally, with rapid mechanization, many industries are
being run using machines. This puts the worker in a vulnerable position and hence the need to
join unions. Thirdly, it is for social reasons. In this case, humans can be described as social
beings. Thus, they will in many instances want to interact with their peers. Additionally,
