The success of a project very much depends on the lifecycle approach applied to it from
the onset. In most cases, project managers select the bets development life cycles that would
result in the most desirable outcome and minimize adverse outcomes form the project. According
to Kerzner, & Kerzner (2017), settling on the wrong project life cycle will surely result in cost
overruns, delayed project delivery, and the risk of failure. Consequently, project managers spend
a lot of time in the initial stages of the project management to identify the most applicable
development life cycles of a project that would minimize such eventualities.
Modi, Singh, & Chauhan (2017) noted in their article that there are various project
management life cycles. However, it is important to note that the predictive life cycle refers to
those whose scope, duration, and cost of delivering the scope are predetermined in the initial
stages of the project life cycle. From the perspective of project management and development,
the predictive life cycle is plan-driven and is characterized by the early definition of project
requirements which are meant to be followed to the end. As such, there is a sequential
progression of project phases with a few overlaps. This idea is emphasized by Kerzner, &
Kerzner (2017) who note that it is noteworthy that any changes in the later stages of a predictive
project life cycle lead to the introduction of additional costs.
