PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

It is normal for individuals to feel dizzy when they hear the term performance appraisal.
The performance appraisal reviews the work one by individuals performed or didn’t within the last
few months. It is not only the employees who fear review meetings but managers also, fear
appraisal performances especially if the manager was not preparing for it. The following paper
looks at reasons why the managers fear performance appraisals.
Lack of investing time to set deliverables
It becomes a problem for the manager if he/she doesn’t lay the deliverables in detail
because he/she doesn’t know how to appraise the employees. It is vital or the managers to do this
at the beginning of the review period. The manager should have a seat with team members an
assign them their main result areas in separate meetings. The manager should be keen on the
strengths and weaknesses of the employees and ensure they do their best. The next review time
will give the manager an easy time because he/she will have known what to review on (Guo,
Bennamoun, Sohel, Wan, & Kwok, 2016).
The managers are unapproachable
It is important or the employees to get the feedback of the manager. The manager`s
feedback keeps the employees on track and makes them aware of what they are doing. Motivate
employees to perform better. However, if the manager is unapproachable either because he/she is
in meetings or on business trips, the employees will fear the performance appraisals due to their
lack of interaction with the managers. Both the manager and the employees will have a hard time
due to the lack of rapport.
