Due 09/25/2019 by 6PM ESTRespond to the blog posts of three colleagues in one or more of the following ways:Expand on your colleague’s posting.Share an insight from having read your colleague’s posting.Response to StephanieAn explanation of how you have addressed intervention or how you might address intervention in your field education experience Interventions offer an opportunity for social workers to provide solutions to social problems (Laurette Education, 2013d). Intervention at Gateway counseling is the different therapies or concepts that are applied. In a group therapy session, different interventions such as CBT and DBT techniques are applied. Another intervention strategy that the agency has is peer support, where an employee is able to support the individual who is fighting their disease with support from someone who has sustained recovery for fourteen years. The biggest group intervention class that is taught at Gateway is the PRI class which focuses on motivational interviewing. All these resources are beneficial and have helped many clients maintain their recovery. Personally, I have used the DBT and CBT techniques in group. My favorite technique to use is in DBT, with the acronym ACCEPTS. ACCEPTS stands for Activities, Contributing, Comparison, Emotions, Pushing Away, Thoughts, and Sensations. These are different skills taught to the individuals to help them cope with the urge to abuse a substance right in that moment. It has proven beneficial from what the clients have stated. Overall, there are many beneficial interventions that can be implemented, it is up to the counselor to choose what they feel is best case practice (Cromer, M., 2019).Reference:Cromer, M., (2019). Retrieved from https://class.waldenu.edu********************************************************************************Response to Marissa An explanation of how address intervention in field education experience Intervention is a huge part of our work as social workers. By providing services to our clients, we are intervening and improving their wellbeing (Laureate Education, 2013). In my field education experience, I am intervening with my clients in a few different ways. I provide group therapy in the intensive outpatient groups. I am also providing individual therapy sessions, where I utilize different types of interventions and theories to work through the patients' concerns. I also work with families and do interventions with them to help promote healing to the family unit. All of these interventions provide a specific service to the patients I serve. By providing these different types of intervention, I am allowing the patients to process feelings and work towards better decision making. I am also providing them with tools and education so that when our intervention is complete, they will know how to cope on their own (KARC, 2019). ReferencesLaureate Education (Producer). (2013d). Retrieved from kennedyaddictionrecoverycenter.com ***************************************************************************************************************************************** Response to Jennifer An explanation of how you have addressed intervention or how you might address intervention in your field education experience The way in which I have addressed intervention in my field education experience, has been to view interventions as a way of assisting the clients on how to regain self-autonomy and help a client identify behaviors which have potentially hinder client from being successful in his or her life. At Care Resource interventions are used in the Behavioral Health Department as part of the treatment plan for clients. Group and therapy is the focus of how successful the client's treatment outcomes are. Clients who participate in the MAT program are advised to partake in Therapy every week and groups weekly. This process is to help client gain coping skills and strategies when faced with challenging situations such as cravings and relsape. Groups are formed to allow for the clients to come and share with other peers their similarity and some differences. Coming from an observer, co-facilitator to facilitating the groups my experience is, when members feel safe they will allow for themselves to be vulnerable and transparent and open to share with other group members and not worrying if group members will share their information outside the group. According to Birkenmaier, Berg-Weger (2018) When interactions among group members facilitate, group work builds on individual strengths to actualize the power of the group dynamic that occurs when they share and bring new insights to the experience of others. As a group facilitator, my responsibility that I provide a safe free zone for the client to come and be themselves and educate each person on the importance of confidentiality among group members.
