Introduction

Over the years General Aviation security has been a significant concern for many people
within the American soil. Before the September 11 attacks, the general aviation security was by
the federal government through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). FAA was mainly
focused exclusively on airports serving scheduled operations. During the aftermath of the
terrorist attacks of the September 11, the Transportation Security Act (TSA) was enacted by the
Congress (Ergün, Açıkel & Turhan, 2017). The mandate of the TSA was to develop, regulate and
enforce security standards for the general aviation transportation. As a way of accomplishing its
mandate, the TSA established the Security General Aviation Airports guidelines. These
guidelines were aimed at general aviation airports owners, and operators to develop best
practices as well as methods that were to aid in enhancing security within the airports. Although
there have been many challenges associated with the general aviation security, the TSA, through
its set mandate has been able to address most general aviation security concerns. It is therefore
